How Does Factor Work?

Factor is a meal delivery service that provides weekly healthy ready-to-eat meals. Factor meals come fully cooked and only require as little as two minutes in the microwave or five minutes in the oven if you prefer.

To sign up for Factor, simply visit their website, where you’ll immediately be prompted to build your first box. The first step is choosing the number of meals you’d like to receive each week and your preferences. The available options are keto, calorie-smart, vegan and vegetarian, chef’s choice, and protein plus. You can choose to receive four, six, eight, 10, 12, or 18 meals per week.

Next, you’ll be required to create an account with your email address, but you can also sign up with your Facebook or Google account. You then enter your home address, and if Factor delivers to your location, you can proceed to pay for your first box. It’s also possible to add specific delivery instructions such as “leave at front door” or “leave with neighbor.”

What Does Factor Offer?

Factor allows you to set your diet preference to determine the types of meals highlighted for you every week. The five options are:

  • Calorie smart. These include a range of dietitian-approved meals that contain 550 calories per serving or less.
  • Chef’s choice. This category includes chef-crafted meals that cater to different dietary needs, such as vegetarianism or weight loss and maintenance.
  • Keto. These are low-carb, high-fat meals designed to provide you with a steady stream of long-lasting energy.
  • Vegan and veggie. Make veggies and plant-based protein the heroes of your meals by choosing this offering.
  • Protein plus. These are high-protein meals that contain at least 30 grams of protein per serving.

Currently, Factor doesn’t allow you to customize meals. However, the service offers 29 or more meals to choose from every week, so you should be able to find something that matches your needs and tastes.

In addition to providing healthy meals, Factor also offers a free complimentary 20-minute nutrition coaching session with a registered dietitian, addressing issues such as weight loss, performance enhancement, lifestyle change, and intuitive eating. If you wish to continue working with a dietitian after your session, you can subscribe to their one- or three-month coaching programs.

Each program starts with an initial 45-minute session that is followed by a series of 20-minute sessions. The coaching comes with other add-ons, such as unlimited support via secure messaging, virtual food and lifestyle journals, multimedia tools and worksheets, and access to Factor’s nutrition courses.

What’s On The Menu?

Factor’s menus are highly varied and give you at least 29 menu options to choose from every week. You’ll be able to see three weeks' worth of menus at a time, and each item is clearly marked to show what food preference it’s best suited for.

Below are some of the highlights of Factor’s menu options.

Those trying to lose or maintain weight will enjoy Factor’s chicken tikka masala with basmati rice, chickpeas, and curry cauliflower. The meal comes in at only 460 calories and a remarkable 39 grams of protein per serving.

If weight loss is your aim, but you’re also vegan or vegetarian, you can opt for the three-bean vegan chili with cornbread casserole and tofu-based crema instead. The bean chili contains three types of beans, so you never have to worry about meeting your protein recommendations. It also contains tomatoes, bell peppers, and corn, which are excellent sources of dietary fiber and micronutrients.

For those on keto, the top-rated buffalo chicken breast with pepper jack cauliflower mash, roasted broccoli, and ranch dressing is the perfect weeknight dinner. Substituting cauliflower for potatoes delivers an equally filling dish that is much lower in carbs. Each serving of this meal contains only 8 grams of net carbs, 570 calories, and 41 grams of fat.

On the days when you’re feeling a little indulgent, the chicken jambalaya mac and cheese will surely satisfy any cravings you might have. It’s not all about indulgence, however—it includes a serving of spicy cayenne cauliflower that also gives the dish some nutritional balance.

Factor’s meals don’t require any form of special preparation. When you’re ready to eat, take off the meal sleeve and pierce the clear plastic film. Remove any components that you don’t want microwaved, such as dressings, and then microwave on high for two minutes. If necessary, add an additional 30 seconds until the food reaches your desired temperature, and then let the food stand for two minutes. Finally, remove the plastic film, plate your food, and enjoy.

You can also heat your food in the oven. Preheat to 375°F, remove the meal sleeve and plastic film, and place the tray in the center of the oven. Heat for five minutes or until the food reaches your desired temperature.

Factor’s meals are packaged in BPA-free microwave-safe containers. The containers are made from CPET, a type of plastic that is considered safe for heating food in the microwave or oven.

What’s It Gonna Cost Me?

Factor costs about $11 to $15 per person per meal, and is constant for all meal preferences. The more meals you order, the lower the cost per serving will be. Enjoy a discount on your first box by signing up through our chart here.

Factor has a flat shipping fee of $9.99, which is around what most ready meal services charge. The service delivers to every US state, except for Hawaii and Alaska.

Getting Your Box

Factor meal kits are delivered on Mondays, Tuesdays, or Wednesdays between 8am and 8pm. You don’t have to be home to receive your box, as they are fitted with insulation and contain frozen gel packs to keep the food fresh till you return. You do, however, need to place the food in the fridge as soon as possible.

The box, laminated insulation (a brown paper product), and food containers are recyclable, but the cotton and PET insulation are not. The gel packs are reusable once frozen.

Help & Support

If you need help, the Factor website has a FAQs section that answers most of the common questions customers have. Operating hours are 9am to 9pm from Monday to Friday and 9am to 6pm on Saturday and Sunday.

So What’s For Dinner?

If you want to enjoy healthy delicious meals but don’t have the time to make them from scratch every day, you should give Factor a try. With over 29 meals to choose from every week, you’re bound to find something that works for you, and the two-minute preparation time makes the service suitable for even the busiest parents and professionals. If you’re still unsure, why not take advantage of our discount and try the service at a reduced price.
